Well hello dear neglected blog…
As I mentioned in my last post, I was having a bit of burn out back in January. I took some much needed time away from writing contests and flash pieces. I spent more time on my novel and I’ve been enjoying writing again.
I did participate in two separate contests, NYC Midnight’s Short Story contest and a Writing Battle contest. My writing battle piece did really well, ending up in the top sixteen for its category. This is the highest I have ever placed in a Writing Battle competition. I wrote a spooky cryptid story which was both fun and challenging. You can read it here.
My piece for NYC Midnight is still being judged.
Additionally, I took a break from my short story writing group. I love this group and I have missed them. But it helped me to clear my mind and reset myself with my relationship to writing.
I have also been spending a lot of time reading. A big part of this may have due to the record setting blizzard that we had in Rhode Island.
I have been a real horror and sci-fi kick lately. Some of my favorite recent reads have been:
Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman
A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher
Redshirts by John Scalzi
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
It has been a joy to read so many wonderful books lately and make a dent in my TBR list.
Overall, I am feeling much refreshed from my short story break. As a newish writer, I think it was important for me to do this and figure out how much I can handle.
Now, back to writing…
