Sometimes when I write and submit a piece it feels like I am sending it out into the void of space. There are also a fair number of rejection letters…
But sometimes you get big win.
Last spring, I submitted a piece to Writer’s Digest for their Annual Writing Competition. It was a short story genre piece entitled A Spare Moment and is a story about a woman and a detective searching for her missing daughter. I knew it was a long shot that it would go anywhere and because the winners were not going to be announced until fall, I put it in the back of my mind.
So, I was completely shocked when I received an email from the editor letting me know my piece had won fifth place! Out of 3,800 submissions, it was nice to know that my piece stood out.
This was a major confidence boost and honestly, I am still feeling the high from it. It gave me a boost when I feeling burnt out and the confidence to continue writing. It’s pretty cool to say that I’m an award winning author now.
